Identifying Your Chimney Type
Before ordering full chimney covers, it's necessary to determine if you have a full masonry chimney or a chase which can be veneered with brick or stone as well as stucco'd or sided.
If your chimney has a full metal cover with a metal pipe protruding through it, it's a chase no matter what the exterior surface is composed of. Here's an example of a chase top:
